Thinking you missed the boat. Initially, my client frequently expressed versions of this limiting belief in regard to her passions for dance and yoga. “I wish I would have stuck with it, but….” “If only I had…” “I’m too old to…” “All of my colleagues are already….” Despite these comments, as we progressed through examining all of her passions, it became clear to me that my client had not “missed the boat”. She had simply chosen not to get on these previous boats because they didn’t fit all of her passions – particularly the intellectual rigor and stimulation that her other interests held for her. When she recognized that she had not made a mistake and missed an opportunity, but rather that her internal passions had been guiding her all along, it eliminated her self-doubt and increased her confidence for taking the next steps to make her passions into her livelihood.
