Lawson releases 100-yen meatball lunch packs

By on November 9, 2021

A typical Japanese bento sold at convenience stores come with more than one “Okazu”  or side dish.

But as food manufacturers and retailers weigh the probability of higher inflation, consumers in Japan are already feeling the pinch on their day-to-day expenses.

Lawson convenience store thus came up with a solution.

On November 10, 2021, all Lawson stores in Japan will start selling simple Meatball lunch packs (rice and meatballs only) for 100 yen. For some, this brings back memories of a lunch box prepared by busy moms – containing only the bare essentials – carbs and protein.

This is Lawson’s second attempt to offer a single side dish lunch pack after the success of Vienna sausage Bento that sold 500,000 packs after its launch in June 2021.

The meatball bento contains 6 meatballs with demi glace sauce to keep the cost down.
