Have you ever taken a bite of Baklava and felt instantly transported to a higher level of happiness?

Baklava is a luxurious pastry roll featured in many Mediterranean cuisines. The buttery, nutty flavor taste of this makes it one of the most luxurious and rich desserts in the world. A mouthful of really good baklava will tell you just how much love and passion goes into it. Each thin layer of dough is laminated with fresh butter and sprinkled with lots of chopped pistachio or walnuts, popped into the oven and soaked with honey.

To all the die-hard Baklava fans out there, this rich and delicious dessert once served to royalty, has come to Tokyo. To truly appreciate the king of mediterranean pastries, you have to eat it on the same day it was baked.

This week I went to Nadir Gullu, a powerhouse Baklava brand from Turkey that has a pop up store at the basement floor of Matsuya Ginza. For those of you who have been to Turkey know that Nadir Gullu Baklavas are the best and they truly are. They only bake a limited quantity everyday so by the time I arrived at noontime on November 14, they were all gone. When I went a little earlier the next day, a lot of people aching to get the pastry were queueing up. The demand for the buttery pie is insatiable.

After waiting for around 25 minutes, I finally got my hands on a box of 12 pieces of Pistachio Baklavas (370yen each). I did not buy the walnut baklava which goes slightly cheaper (324 yen a piece) because my children don’t eat walnuts. They were awesome and my family loves it! We may get another box this week.

The pop up Nadir Gullu baklava store is open until Nov 23 from 10 am. Location: Basement floor of Matsuya Ginza department store
