Yesterday, Japan’s health ministry panel approved the use of Pfizer Inc.’s COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.

The minimum age for which Japan has set the booster shot however is 18 citing lack of clinical data for those under 18. The ministry says it is open to the option of lowering the minimum age once additional data become available.

The next round of talks will take place on Thursday for the ministry to give its formal approval and agree whether booster shots should be made free to the public.

The first two doses for those aged 12 or older in Japan were paid for by Japan’s public funds.

Booster shots will be administered starting from healthcare workers in December and to those who have been inoculated twice in the last six months.
