Yesterday, Japan’s health ministry decided that the third shot of Pfizer Inc.’s novel coronavirus vaccine will be administered to people around 6 months after they have received their last shot, subject to the discretion of local governments. In principle, the timing of administering the booster shots is eight months after the second shot.

The plan for people aged 18 and older to be able to receive on demand,  a “temporary vaccination” free of charge under the Immunization Act, was approved by the panel of experts in the ministry.

The booster shot schedule starts next month and may be prolonged from February 2022 until September 2022.
