About half of parents of children under 12 in Japan plan to take a wait-and-see stance when COVID-19 vaccination becomes available, a survey by Nomura Research Institute Ltd. reveals.

The survey found 53.5 % of 1,953 parents surveyed want their children to receive vaccine shots only after there is enough information regarding its safety.

Meanwhile, 12.9% said they want their children to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

A total of 33.6% are somewhat reluctant or do not want to have their children inoculated.

Twenty four percent of 1,137 parents with children over 12 eligible for vaccination have received two COVID-19 vaccine doses.
