Schools won’t be asked to close even if emergency is issued.
It isn’t likely that blanket closures will apply to elementary and junior high schools even if a state of emergency over the novel coronavirus is declared in Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa.
That’s coming from Japan’s economic revitalization minister Yasutoshi Nishimura at a press conference on Monday.
In April last year, when the government issued an emergency declaration over the virus for Tokyo and some other prefectures, elementary, junior high and high schools across the country, were requested to close temporarily until May.
The above four prefectures where the number of caseloads is increasing, will likely be put under emergency status but school closures is not included in the plan.
