Unemployment insurance benefit

Q
I’m contemplating quitting my job without another one in place. For how long can I claim Unemployment Insurance (失業保険shitsugyou hoken) benefits?
As a rule of thumb, you are entitled to benefits starting on the 3rd month from the date of your resignation in case you resign from your job on your own volition. However, if you have been asked to leave by the company you work for, you are eligible to claim benefits immediately on the first month that you are without a job provided your visa remains valid. You will also have to prove that you are constantly looking for a job. Below is a table how the term is calculated.
To apply for unemployment insurance benefits in Japan (assuming you are enrolled in the scheme through your employers), you must meet the following conditions:
-
You are actively looking for a job.
-
You are employable at any time
-
You are not engaged in any sort of paid employment.
An application should be made at the office of Hello Work , the Japanese government’s Employment Service Center that processes unemployment insurance benefits and also helps the unemployed find a job using its job-matching programs.
