Doughnut Plant (by Elaine Theodore)

With a wide array of flavors, from the traditional chocolate glazed, to the more unusual hazelnut, these are no ordinary doughnuts. Based on the 100 year old recipe of his grandfather, the Doughnut Plant’s founder, Mark Israel, opened his first Doughnut Plant in New York in 1994. Doughnut Plant’s fans now include Martha Stewart, Emeril Lagasse, and hundreds of New Yorkers.

Featuring all natural ingredents and old fashioned glazes, the homemade flavor really sets these doughnuts apart. The doughnuts are huge, light, and great looking - in a palate of colorful glazes including lime, apricot, cassis, vanilla bean, and blueberry.

We went to the Azabu Jyuban location which had a lovely patio with a portion that was non smoking.  (The inside of the shop is completely non smoking).  We sat on the patio, which was a great place for kids to people-watch and chatter away as sugar took its effect. The diaper changing table in the bathroom also scored big points with the Moms! A really nice place to stop by with the kids for a treat!
