When I was a child, I loved my Mom to sing me songs, but some of them filled my imaginative head with worry. “If I was Mom’s sunshine, was someone going to take me away?”… “Did the baby get hurt when the cradle fell?”…“Was the little old lady really going to die?”… Over the years, through running a preschool, and now being a mother, I have improvised my own less scary lyrics to some of these songs. For any other parents of children with active imaginations, I hope they help!
“Rock a bye baby, on the tree top,
when the wind blows, the cradle will rock.
When the bough brakes the cradle will fall,
and there will be Mommy/Daddy,
to catch your fall”
“There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, she swallowed a fly, I wonder why? Perhaps she’ll cry….BOOOO HOOO”
“There was an old lady who swallowed a horse, I don’t know why she swallowed the horse, she’s FULL of course!”
“You are my sunshine,
my only sunshine,
you make me happy
while skies are gray
You’ll never know dear,
how much I love you,
and I love you more every day!”
