To estimate how much budget you should allocate for photographers to cover your party, start by understanding what work you expect to be done and how much before you even begin your search. Not all photographers publish their rates online much less charge the same but to be on the safe side, keep in mind the following:

1. If a photographer has a name, chances are he or she may charge an hourly rate or higher than industry average.

2. If he or she is a recreational photographer, you may want to see the quality of his/her work before negotiating. Usually if you agree to have your family photos be used on his published portfolio, you may get a better deal.

3. Referrals from friends are good but may not always work to your advantage. Keeping things professional always work out in the end.

4. Always ask for hidden costs. Some quotes are misleading and it is better to understand what is covered and not before giving him or her the work.
