How much sleep do children really need?

By on May 8, 2014

Kids acting grouchy and exhibiting bad behavior is often the result of not having enough sleep. A new study in pediatrics suggests that children who do not get enough sleep show symptoms of ADHD. Eight-year-olds in the study who slept less than 7 1/2 hours were more impulsive and hyperactive than those who slept more.

Ages 1 & 2 years old need 12-14 hours of sleep plus additional 1-3 hours of naptime

Ages 3 & 4 years old should sleep 11-13 hours  each night plus additional naptime

Ages 5 -12 years old need to get to 11 hours’ sleep every night
